Actually, this shoulnd't be happening any more with the latest plugin releases (i.e. from 0.5 on), whatever your Windows drive is.
Can you be more specific about your configuration and the error you get?

Also, can you run GIMP from the command line doing the following?

Go to Start menu -> Exec…, then type cmd and press enter. In the console, write:

 cd %ProgramFiles%\GIMP-2.0\bin gimp-2.6 -c --verbose > "%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\Desktop\out.txt" 2>&1

then do whatever you need to do to make the error appear (possibly nothing) and close GIMP. A file named out.txt should have appeared on your desktop. Either upload it somewhere or copy and paste its content here. Thanks.
(Note: I assumed you're using GIMP 2.6)

I also get the dreaded Windows - No Disk error, suspect it is because Windows is not installed on drive C. Possible?

As stated in another thread, there's a new Windows release in the Download page. This time it was compiled from drive C:, so it will hopefully solve the drive problems.

I wouldn't think architecture would matter on a 32 bit platform. All hardware is 64 bit anymore, but not everyone is running 64 bit windows.

All my errors went away !!!
My XP computer only had 128MB of RAM so I decided to add more memory.
Once I installed the 512MB more memory I noticed all the errors when away.
I'm not sure if this was the original problem, but it seems to work now.

I have asked the guy who compiled the plugin for windows, he says that the problem is probably the architecture.
Thus, 64 bits is to be considered currently unsupported in windows. You should probably just use the previous version of the plugin instead, sorry (or learn to compile yourself ;).

Same results on my home system. Gimp Launches without error and the help files work, but still get error when starting app from Layers menu. The plugin works normally though.

Alright, changing the parameters to the correct path stops the error when loading Gimp. The error repeats when actually launching the app.

Error repeats twice then the plugin functions normally.

Yes, well spotted!
Changing the second line to "file://c:/Program files/GIMP-2.0/share/gimp-lqr-plugin/help" lets the help page display correctly on my system when pressing the help button (I'll put this in the documentation somehwere until a fix is out).
However, the localization is still not working for me, even if I set the local-def line correctly (???).

Anyway, my system never complained, even if the settings were wrong. Let me know if this fixes your problems.

I found these two lines in the "c:\documents and settings\username\.gimp-2.4\pluginrc" file. I'm not sure how the file is used but this could be the problem.

(locale-def "gimp20-lqr-plugin" "f:/gimp-lqr-plugin-0.4.0/lib/locale")
(help-def "plug-in-lqr-help" "file:///f:/gimp-lqr-plugin-0.4.0/share/gimp-lqr-plugin/help"))

I have performed some tests with GIMP 2.4.4 on XP and everything is working fine for me… maybe you have a different CPU architecture than i386? 64 bits perhaps?

I didn't compile the win version, and I have no clue of what is going wrong if it's not the CPU or some peculiar installation option in your setup.

Hi,
I downloaded the latest zip file "gimp-lqr-plugin-0.4.0-1_win32.zip"
when I start GIMP I get the attached error message. I get the same error message when I select the plugin from the Layers menu.

I am running window XP operating system.
