Summary:

i cant get the plugin to appear in the layers menu

i had an old liquid rescale installed and although it showed in the gimp 2.4.2 layers menu i couldnt get it to work
so i downloaded the latest version of the plugin
extracted it directed into the correct plugin folder
on starting gimp i got this error message
The procedure entry point g_assertion_message_expr could not be located in the dynamic link library libglib-2.0-0.dll
pressing ok opened gimp but there is no plugin in the layers menu

i tried removing the files from the plugin folder and put them (from the zip file) in my documents and settings folder under gimp 2.4
gimp started ok but still no plugin in the layers menu
i know i have done something rather silly and missed the obvious
but it sure has me stumped
any ideas where i went wrong ?

I don't know, it looks like something is wrong with your installation of glib.
Anyway, why don't you upgrade to GIMP 2.6?
Another option would be trying with the Portable Apps version of GIMP.

My flavor is "The procedure entry point gimp_drawable_is_valid could not be located in the dynamic link library libgimp-2.0-0.dll." I've checked for the two liquid rescale executables in the plug-in folder and they're both there.

I extracted the /lib and /share folders in the Windows download to my C:\Program Files\Gimp-2.0 folder in Windows Vista.

I'll try upgrading from Gimp 2.4 to 2.6 then re-install and report back.

I've run this installation of Gimp hundreds of times with no trouble, even with other plugins. I wonder (naively) if there's some disconnect between the way Gimp for Windows treats libraries and plugins vs the way Gimp for Linux treats them.

I uninstalled v2.4 and installed 2.6 (very nice, by the way) then reinstalled the lqr plugin. It works beautifully; no more errors.

I had the exact same problem with Liquid Rescale using Gimp 2.4 on XP.

Is this a common occurance?
If it is, can it be fixed?
If it can't be fixed, shouldn't version 2.4 of Gimp be taken off of the supported versions list?

Just offering some questions/ideas…

i installed GIMP 2.8.0 RC1 (WIN) and i tried to install this awesome plugin, but i got a similar problem:"The procedure entry 'gimp_drawable_get_thumbnail' could not be located in the dynamic link library libglimpui-2.0-0.dll".

Problem should be solved now with the new installer for GIMP 2.8.

I have windows 7 64 bit version i try to install liquid rescale gimp-lqr-plugin_0.7.1-liblqr_0.4.1_win32_setup-1 on gimp 2.8 when i start the program and the messagebox popup "The procedure entry 'gimp_drawable_get_thumbnail' could not be located in the dynamic link library libglimpui-2.0-0.dll" please help me

Try using the new installer for GIMP 2.8, you find it in the usual place for Windows downloads. It was done for the pre-release version of GIMP, but it should work anyway.

I just installed LQR for the first time today on a fresh install of GIMP, I run into the same problem. I had to direct the installer to C:user\programs(x86)\Gimp-2.0, but that error comes up when I run gimp and it won't appear under the layer menu.

Can you provide more details? What version of Windows are you on? What version of GIMP? 32 or 64 bits Windows? 32 or 64 bits GIMP?

Note that the plugin has 2 different download versions for GIMP 2.6 and 2.8. Also, it only works with 32 bits GIMP as far as I know.

It seems suspicious that you directed to "C:\User\Programs(x86)\GIMP-2.0". Why is there a "User" directory? Do you have a "C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0" or similar?

I was using GIMP 2.8, and suddenly today i couldn't open any jpg or gif files, just xcf ones, and keep receiving this frustrating message: 'The procedure entry point g-close could not be located in the dynamic link library ibglib-2.0-0.dll.' So i unistalled my GIMP and reinstalled it again, but no improvement! I have windows xp 32 bits, i can't find any understandable guide in the net. Yesterday i added to CCleaner an order to clean in Advanced the Old Prefetch Data, can it be related to it? Seems more like a bug to me. All the net is full of complains over the similar kind of haps for several years.
Still, can anybody help? I really, really love GIMP and feel like paralized without it.

Sorry, but from the description you give it seems your problem is not related to the Liquid Rescale plug-in, but rather to GIMP itself. And yes, if the problem appeared suddenly, then it's very likely that it's related to something you installed/removed in the meanwhile, but I'm not really able to help. You should try to get support from some GIMP user forum (again: this website is dedicated to a plug-in, and besides I know next to nothing about Windows).

The problem is marked as solved because it refers to an issue which was caused by the Liquid Rescale plug-in specifically, and it was solved by the release of a new installer of the plug-in.

Well, i downloaded the Liquid Rescale as required and by your guide. No change. And it also doesn't show in Layer.
I said previously that the darn message came when i tried to open pics. But in fact it comes already when i try to open GIMP. Eventually the GIMP opens, but only after i have killed the message four or five times. But the pics can't be opened.
Pleeeaaase help!
