gimp-lqr plugin.exe - entry point not found [solved]

Summary:

i cant get the plugin to appear in the layers menu

gimp-lqr plugin.exe - entry point not found

i had an old liquid rescale installed and although it showed in the gimp 2.4.2 layers menu i couldnt get it to work
so i downloaded the latest version of the plugin
extracted it directed into the correct plugin folder
on starting gimp i got this error message
The procedure entry point g_assertion_message_expr could not be located in the dynamic link library libglib-2.0-0.dll
pressing ok opened gimp but there is no plugin in the layers menu

i tried removing the files from the plugin folder and put them (from the zip file) in my documents and settings folder under gimp 2.4
gimp started ok but still no plugin in the layers menu
i know i have done something rather silly and missed the obvious
but it sure has me stumped
any ideas where i went wrong ?

I don't know, it looks like something is wrong with your installation of glib.
Anyway, why don't you upgrade to GIMP 2.6?
Another option would be trying with the Portable Apps version of GIMP.

My flavor is "The procedure entry point gimp_drawable_is_valid could not be located in the dynamic link library libgimp-2.0-0.dll." I've checked for the two liquid rescale executables in the plug-in folder and they're both there.

I extracted the /lib and /share folders in the Windows download to my C:\Program Files\Gimp-2.0 folder in Windows Vista.

I'll try upgrading from Gimp 2.4 to 2.6 then re-install and report back.

I've run this installation of Gimp hundreds of times with no trouble, even with other plugins. I wonder (naively) if there's some disconnect between the way Gimp for Windows treats libraries and plugins vs the way Gimp for Linux treats them.

I uninstalled v2.4 and installed 2.6 (very nice, by the way) then reinstalled the lqr plugin. It works beautifully; no more errors.

I had the exact same problem with Liquid Rescale using Gimp 2.4 on XP.

Is this a common occurance?
If it is, can it be fixed?
If it can't be fixed, shouldn't version 2.4 of Gimp be taken off of the supported versions list?

Just offering some questions/ideas…
