Okay, I have been trying to compile on OS X 10.5 and seem to have found a recurring problem.

I have followed the instructions for install on OS X including setting the path to configure and adding the missing sections in the po/Makefile for GMSGFMT, MSGFMT and XGETTEXT.

When I run make it starts compiling things and then errors out when trying to make lqr_raster.o.

The relevant part of the compilation script and subsequent error are as follows.

Sorry for the confusion, for some reason I have always been a bit confused about the naming of various versions of OS X. I am actually using Leopard 10.5 not Tiger 10.4.

The same thing seems to be happening with other people according to a couple of bug reports for MacPorts.

A bit more info which may or may not be pertinent. I am attempting to do this on a MacBook that I've upgraded to Leopard from Tiger. I'll give it a try on a G4 iBook with Tiger tomorrow or so.

Well, I tried it on an iBook G4 with Tiger today and it seems to be working fine so I guess this must be an issue with either Leopard or with Xcode Tools 3.0.

I have no idea of what those errors mean, but they involve the gradient functions.

Just to try, remove all the inlines from lqr_gradient.{c,h}, like this:

cd src
mv lqr_gradient.c lqr_gradient.old.c
sed "s/inline //g" lqr_gradient.old.c > lqr_gradient.c

(do the same for lqr_gradient.h).

This does make it compile. Thanks for that. In my tests so far it doesn't work quite as I expected but it's still very interesting.

I am curious, how did you determine where the errors were coming from?

About how I guessed the error: it looked that there was a problem with the address of the functions in the assembly code.

When you say "don't work as expected" do you mean there's still some bug or are you talking about the effectivness of the algorithm (which depends strongly on the image)?

Well, it's a bit hard to say if there is a bug as I've not actually used the plugin much before. I think it has something to do with the algorithm or more likely the pictures I've been trying it on.
