Liquid Rescale GIMP plugin

Summary:

I needs some help to use the Gimp Liquid Rescale feature.
I installed GIMP version 2.4.2 and the Liquid Rescale GIMP plugin on an XP laptop because I want to
use the retargetting features to remove some objects from my photos and to protect human faces and

I am not having and I am not familiar with the displayed menus in the examples.

Is it possible to get some help " steps to follow" and how to do it correctly. A link with all steps will be
very helpful.

The basic steps are:

1. Open the image
2. Open Layer->Liquid Rescale
3. Click on the "New" button in the "Feature preservation mask" section
4. Without closing the plugin dialog, go to the image window, choose the brush and paint over the areas you want to keep intact
5. Go back to the plugin dialog and click "Refresh"
6. Click on the "New" button in the "Feature discard mask" section
7. Without closing the plugin dialog, go to the image window and paint over the areas you want to remove
8. Go back to the plugin dialog and click "Refresh"
9. In the "Select new width and height" section on the left, set the "Mode" menu to "Lqr + Lqr back to original size" (but you may want to test with the other options)
10. Click "OK"
11. If the result is not satisfactory, use Edit->Undo, select your original layer again and press "Ctrl+Shift+F", changing the options and/or editing the masks you painted before.

Tips:

• Please, read the manual page page for more detailed information.
• Do not rely too much on the "Auto size" button, it is only good for very simple object removals
• Normally, you have to do some testing in order to find out the best settings for each picture
• In order to get more control over what you're doing:
  1. use the options "Output on a new layer" and "Output the seams" in the "Output" tab;
  2. when the plugin has completed its job, let all the layers invisible¹ apart from two:
     • the first "Seams" layer which will be created
     • the original image
  3. this way you can see where and how the plugin acted
• Don't expect miracles :)
