problem installing liquid rescale plugin windows 7 64bit

i downloaded the version for gimp 2.8 but when i click to install i get a message saying gimp cannot be found, install gimp or specify the directory manually. i get to the directory page of the installation and the installer wants to place the file in c:program files(x86)/gimp but my gimp files are in c:program files/. when i direct the file path to point to C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins, the install button remains greyed out and i can't complete the install

how do i
a, complete the install, or
b, install Gimp in my Program files (x86) directory?

You should direct the installer to "C:\Program Files\GIMP 2", without entering into the plug-ins directory. I'm not sure it will work with the 64 version though, if it does please let me know, thanks!

thanks, i tried that before i posted but it didn't work. Today i tried again before i respond to you and it installs perfectly! perhaps i forgot to delete a space or something, but now it is installed on my machine and so far as i can tell, works as it is supposed to.

I cannot click the option under the Layers menu in order to invoke the plugin. The image I'm working with is a single-layer pre-existing PNG. I've selected the only layer (Background) but the option is still greyed out. I've also tried creating a new layer and copying the contents of the background layer to it, but selecting that new layer still doesn't help.

Might be one of those rare indexed-PNG images? You may to convert the image from indexed to RBG (go under the Image/Mode menu); or you can try working on a jpeg image for example. Let me know if that solves the problem.

I had a similar problem, after reading the posts here, I realized that initially the directory that the install pointed to was the (86) directory; however, my GIMP is installed here C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\ and not the C:\Program Files (86)\GIMP 2 file it was looking for. Once I changed the directory to the one where GIMP was actually installed, I had no problem with the installation. I, also, did not do more than point it to the GIMP folder because if I went in to the plugin folder it greyed out. I am posting this explanation because it wasn't as clear to me from reading the above that that might have been the problem with other's installs.
